Yay, we are finally sharing our living room! It was a lot of fun to put this room together. In our almost 10 years of marriage, Ritter and I have collected a lot of things from places we have lived in and travelled to. We also love finding "treasures" at thrift stores and Craigslist - it is so much more fun than buying at a big box store.
These are pictures from Redfin of our living room. As you can see, it had wood trim and beige walls. My brother Luke and I painted all the trim, the fireplace, and walls. Yay for paint!
The walls are painted Owl Grey (half tint) by Benjamin Moore, and the trim is a custom color of white. The big mirror on the mantle is from Ritter's grandmother.
We wanted some color in this little alcove, so we framed a big piece of fabric - this one is from IKEA!
My brother Luke is an amazing artist. I just love these ceramic heads he made. The bicycle bookends are from Target.
So many things from so many places in this pic. The side table was left at our house by the former owner. The chair frame was free on Craigslist, and the leather cushion is from IKEA. I made the cushions with some vintage Hmong fabric. See how I did that here. The J&P Coats box is from Ritter's grandfather's hardware store. The framed fabric piece is a Dutch wax print that I bought in Niger. The square framed print is by me - you can buy a limited edition of it on Minted here. The lamp is vintage, and the shade is from Ross.
The large framed fabric piece was a gift from my in-laws from Burkina Faso.
This chair is from my mother in law's family. I believe a great aunt of hers used it for electrolysis many decades ago. So comfortable. The new cushion is from IKEA.
The blue vase is vintage, and I believe it is actually a cookie jar. The marble table is also vintage - a find from Craigslist. The rug is from Afghanistan from the time that Ritter was stationed there. The other items on the table are from Target.
Another print of mine. This one is original - you can get a limited edition on Minted here.
More vintage finds, as well as ceramics from Korea and Portugal.
If you're selling a house, you should always paint your front door red... Ritter was sold on the house because of that door. :) I'm going to tell you something that makes you mad. We got this Room and Board couch on Craigslist for free, because it didn't fit into the previous owner's house. Crazy, I know. Drapes are from IKEA. They were selling these bedspreads for $6 at the reduced section. They are heavy woven pieces, and perfect to make curtains. I grabbed all of them.
We love our bay window!
These fish are by Vista Alegre - a most respected ceramic institution in Portugal.
Some more Vista Alegre ceramics. I believe the teapot is from Spal, and the creamer is by a artist - can't remember her name right now...
This chest is also from my in-laws. Yeah, we wouldn't have half our furniture without them...
Love the eagle holding up our coffee table!
Our entire house is painted in Gray Owl, but our hallway is blue - can't remember the name of it right now either. Will find out. I'll be doing a whole post on the hallway/stairway later. The yellow butterfly cabinet is from Korea.
Our beat up apothecary chest/nightstands have been with us for many years, and they hold all our crap/socks for the kids before they go out the door. The photo is mine taken at Obidos, Portugal. The lamp was a thriftstore find, and the platter is again from Vista Alegre.
Diapers, wetwipes, and the kid's backpacks go in here and the basket next to it. When will we be done with diapers???
This credenza is actually a radio/record player. It kills my sister that we got it on Craigslist for $20...
You can never have too many cushions.
Thanks for visiting!
